Works secured on 2 Battery Storage projects, equating to 25% of National Grid’s EFR Tender Process…
g2 Energy have successfully been awarded the High Voltage Electrical and Civil engineering works, by Low Carbon on 2 of their Battery Storage projects. Cleator and Glassenbury Road are part of the 1st round of National Grid’s Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR) Tender.
Energy Storage Projects…
The two Energy Storage schemes, with a combined capacity of 50 Megawatts (MW), are located in Cleator in Cumbria and Glassenbury in Kent. Over 5 Gigawatts (GW) of projects were put forward to National Grid’s EFR tender, with just 200MW of projects being successful in the first round. Therefore, these projects alone equate to 25% of the total secured projects within this round of the Tender process. National Grid define the EFR as a service which achieves 100% active power output at 1 second or less of registering a frequency deviation. It is a new service which is being developed to improve management of the Grid before a fault occurs*.
132kV & 33kV Contestable Works…
g2 Energy have successfully been awarded both the 132kV & 33kV Contestable Works and all the Client Side design and build Civil and Electrical ‘Balance of Plant’ works for the two battery storage projects, with works due to commence on site in March 2017. With g2 Energy completing both the Contestable and Balance of Plant Client Side works, this will ensure the smooth delivery and installation of the Battery Containers to site.
Justin Thesiger, Operations Director at Low Carbon, said “We are pleased to have appointed g2 Energy for both of our EFR projects. g2 have successfully completed projects for us in the past and we look forward to working with them again to assist with the completion of the Battery Storage schemes at Cleator and Glassenbury.”
For both schemes, g2 Energy’s specialised in house design department will ensure all Electrical and Civil engineering solutions meet the DNO specification, as well as providing full Client Side solutions. Our highly-experienced Projects team will manage all site activity, ensuring works are completed efficiently and to a high standard. g2 Energy are also providing the complete design and build of Bespoke Containerised Substations for the projects, which are constructed in their warehouse facility in Milton Keynes.
g2 Energy are a Lloyds NERS Registered Independent Connection Provider (ICP) with substantial experience designing and constructing High Voltage Electrical and Civil works associated with a variety of projects across the UK. G2 Energy are accredited to carry out Contestable Works across all DNO areas up to 132kV. In addition, g2 can also design and build all Electrical and Civil Client Side works, including the design and construction of bespoke Containerised Substations.
